Want to automate the export of your images from a photo shoot? Watch Greg Hollmann from Hasselblad USA demonstrate how to setup a Hot Folder and configure Phocus to automatically process any RAW images that get placed inside.

The Hot Folder can be located on a network resource such - as Apple's iDisk - that can be remotely monitored by an art director or agency near-real time. Wow!

Phocus is a free download from Hasselblad

White or No Image in Phocus for Windows PDF Print E-mail

When you launch Phocus for Windows, the default workspace has the thumbnails on the bottom of the screen with the main window for the full display of the image. Under normal operation, when you select an image in the thumbnail window, it will be displayed in the center viewer where you can zoom, pan, crop and rotate the image.

However, if your graphics card does not support Direct X 9.0 or has insufficient video memory (VRAM less than 256MB) you will see either a white rectangle in place of the image (or no image at all.)

Phocus doesn't display image properly

Solution for cannot display image in Phocus (or white image)

Determine your graphics card VRAM:

Windows XP - right click on the desktop and select Properties

How do I find out about my graphics card

Choose Settings tab

Select Advanced button to get to the Device Properties of the Monitor and Graphics Card

Solution for white image in Phocus

Choose the Adaptor tab

As seen in this example, the video memory does not meet the minimum requirements and will not function properly, so a newer video card (aka graphics adaptor) with at least 256MB VRAM will be needed.

Hasselblad released Phocus 2.5 for Windows on June 22, 2010 as a free download for all users. Hotwire-Digital Hasselblad Atlanta Miami

Larger preview image available

We really liked this improvement - many times the embedded preview is just too pixelated when zoomed to fit on a larger display like the LaCie 500 and 700 series. Digital techs are able to quickly show Art Directors/Photographers the overall image with better detail without zooming in to show superior information in the shot (although this does require a graphics card with at least 512MB VRAM to perform suitably; preferred are Nvidia and ATI brands with Direct X 9.0c drivers.)

Hasselblad released Phocus 2.5 for Mac on May 19, 2010 as a free download for all users. We spent a full weekend, including a live shoot with single and multi-shot Hasselblad H3D and H4D and were impressed with the improvements to this major update.

Opens hundreds of other file formats

This was a huge request from photographers and digital techs - the ability to use Phocus for other RAW formats (and processed TIF, etc.) in addition to the Hasselblad 3F file and enables them to focus on using a single command set to get their image capture tasks complete. With over 150 different files supported (think Apple's Preview using Core Image), Phocus extends it's use of the native tools (OpenGL) on the Mac OS X development platform.
